The Tourism Council has developed a 10-day RV Caravan itinerary spanning 4 campgrounds across Eastern Kentucky and Southwest Virginia. This tour highlights the local history, culture, economy and the role religion has played in the region including trips to a local aviation museum, a coal mine and museum, musical entertainment, the home of a local author and a viewing of a outdoor drama based on his work. We are currently developing additional destinations spanning further into western Kentucky, eastern Virginia and looking south into Northeast Tennessee. Many of the destinations we have incorporated into our tour can also be presented as day trips for groups attending RV Rallies. Our day trips can provide all the entertainment, historical information, good cookin' and fun that your group can fit into a single day. Our list of day trips include a trip to Tennessee's oldest town, a visit to a local settlement including your participation in a shotgun wedding, a murder mystery dinner held in a historic mansion, a tour through one of the many caverns in our region or perhaps a day exploring one of the many festivals held in the area. In addition to the programs for RV enthusiasts, we are currently developing a tour of the region specifically for touring motorcycle clubs and hope to have the finalized itinerary by the end of 2006 and begin scheduling groups for 2007. If you are interested in learning more about any of our tours or day trips, please contact the Heart of Appalachia by phone at 888-SWVA-FUN or by email.
