The
original Anderson Blockhouse was built near Wadlow Gap and a replica has been
reconstructed at Natural Tunnel State Park.
Located near the North Fork of the Holston River in what is now East Carter's
Valley, the Blockhouse was the last frontier station before Big Moccasin Gap and
the Indian country that lay beyond. The Blockhouse was specifically designed to
be easily defended and virtually impenetrable by Native Americans and may have been the
only structure of its type in Scott County.
Volunteers from the park and the
Daniel Boone Wilderness
Trail Association can be found at the Blockhouse on weekends, relating tales of the
everyday lives of inhabitants of the region in the days of Daniel Boone.
