The Education Council has been instrumental in
the creation and presentation of the Classroom on Wheels, which traveled
out west in the summers of 2004 and 2005.
With the 70th anniversary
of the Virginia State Parks in 2006 and the 400th anniversary
of Virginia in 2007, we decided to turning our focus a little closer to
home with “Virginia is
for Students” tours in 2006 and 2007. In 2008, the students
visited Washington D.C. and the homes of the
presidents from Virginia, including Monticello and Mt. Vernon.
Planning for the 2010 trip is currently underway.
The Education Council also holds programs for the educators, such as the C.R.E.A.T.E. Workshop (Cove Ridge Education Alliance for Teaching Experientially) and serving as a facility to host in-service programs for Lee, Scott and Wise County schools.
